Representing the Country

Tembisa’s own Katlego Sebola’s lucky stars shone bright, affording him the opportunity to represent the country in the 2019 World Skills South Africa competition, hosted at the Durban Exhibition Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.
Sebola, a Peermont apprentice, is currently studying towards a qualification in air conditioning and refrigeration. He is halfway through a four-year qualification, and is hoping to pass his trade test. People with his skills are on demand.
“Attending the World Skills Competition was valuable because I had the opportunity to travel, and to learn new skills.
“Participating in the World Skills Competition made me feel like I was part of something bigger, representing my country and Peermont, and I am grateful for the opportunity,” said Sebola.
Sebola’s original plan was to become a teacher, but he faced financial challenges.

Determined to do something meaningful with his life, and when he learnt of the opportunities made possible by the Lesedi Programme, he embraced it with both hands and became part of the programme.
“The best part of my job is trouble-shooting and problem-solving, but I learn all the time,” he continued.
He said he has never been to Durban, nor has he ever been in an aeroplane or stayed in a hotel – and these experiences were incredibly meaningful to him.
“We have worked closely with both students and are incredibly proud of their spectacular results,” said Jenny Findlay, Trust manager at Peermont.
“All his hard work has certainly paid off,” she concluded.
The Lesedi Programme is one of many initiatives made possible by the Peermont Group. Others include the Peermont Hotel School, The Ekurhuleni Peermont Chambers of Commerce Trust, the Peermont Education Trust, and the Peermont Children’s Trust. Intakes into the various programmes happen several times a year, giving as many young people as possible the opportunity to embrace their right to education and skills development.
