Peermont Education Trust Awards Scholarships
To 11 Ekurhuleni Youngsters

Every year the Peermont Education Trust (PET), a CSI programme of Peermont’s flagship resort, Emperors Palace, grants all-expenses paid scholarships (valued at approximately R170 000 each) to deserving Ekurhuleni youngsters.
This year the Trust decided to award 10 bursaries with the 14 youngsters who made the shortlist, from over 600 applicants, interviewed by a panel of five Peermont Trustees and two Alumni of the PET at the Palace of Dreams on 18 January.
After the stringent interview process, Trustees Tshidi Madima, Fihliwe Molefi, Oren Fuchs, Vusi Zwane and Thembekile Makhoba, along with Alumni, Nthabiseng Malaka and Sphesihle Nxumalo decided to amend the number of scholarships and increased it to 11.
Of the 11, eight will start their tertiary educations this year while three recipients, Petunia Mailula of Katlehong will proceed to do her second year BCom Accounting degree studies at UJ, Daveyton’s K0pano Leboho will be able to do her fourth year BCom Accounting (changing to the CA stream) at UJ and Lerato Madonsela of Katlehong will do her second year BCom finance degree also at UJ thanks to the Trust.
Among the first-year recipients are Katlehong’s, Nosihle Zinyane (BSc in Biomedical Engineering at Wits) and Ntethelelo Nhleko (Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and FET at Wits) while Numusa Sogwayi of Kwa-Thema is also off to Wits to do a LLB in Law degree.
Thembisa’s Godwill Shabalala will study a BSc in Computer Science at UP with Tshepiso Kola heading to Wits to do a BSc in Mining Engineering degree. Dinwiddie High School matriculant, Danyell Resinamhodzi will start her Bachelor of Arts degree at Wits where she will be joined by Daveyton’s Sandiselwe Zwane who will do a Bachelor of Laws degree while Springs resident, Siyabonga Zwane will head to UP to study BEng Civil Engineering.

In addition, the PET has extended the bursaries previously granted to, Calvin Phantsi, Malwande Nomnasi, Boitumelo Phahlane, Bulelwa Masoka, Khensani Khoza, Percy Sambo, Diana Bingani, Velaphe Melamo, Lifa Njabulo Masina, Samkelo Shezi and Kwanele Mangqishi.
As one of Peermont’s CSI pillar, Education and Youth Development is essential in providing the disadvantaged with the educational tools and access to quality education.
