PCBT hosts workshop for Tembisa SOS Educators
Tuesday, October 04, 2022
The Tembisa Commerce and Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation with focus on Hospitality and Tourism (Tembisa SOS) – formerly Tembisa Secondary School -was gazetted as a School of Tourism and Hospitality by the Gauteng Department of Education in 2015.
Subsequently the Gauteng MEC for Education and Youth Development, Panyaza Lesufi officially launched Tembisa SOS in July this year with the Peermont Community Benefit Trust (PCBT), a CSI initiative of Emperors Palace establishing a partnership with the school.
As part of the latter the PCBT sponsored a “hotel room classroom”, to the value of R300 000 which was opened on Mandel Day, to assist in skills development at the school and in addition announced a further investment of R500 000 in Tembisa SOS to further the development and training of learners and teachers in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Investment in Excellence Training
As part of the training and development for educators, the PCBT contracted the Pacific Institute (PI) to train 12 School Management Team (SMT) members which includes the principal, deputy principal and Heads of Department in a course titled Investment in Excellence.
The first Phase 1 (preparing the individual) is currently being hosted at Emperors Palace and will be held from 4 to 6 July, 2022. The aim of the daily facilitated interactive workshop is to get each person to understand and appreciate his/her unique personal contribution to the achievement of the required performance enhancements both in their personal lives as well as their working lives.
The workshop will be followed by four-weeks of self-study, allowing for personal reflection aided with a workbook, and assimilation. It is this process that ensures that the motivation is sustained, and the concepts truly are clarified in a unique way for each of the individuals
Investment in Excellence Phase 2 (Bridging the Individual to the Team) will take place at a future date and will once again be hosted at the Palace of Dreams.
During this phase, the emphasis is shifted from the individual to the team, whilst still concentrating on the individuals’ part in this. This involves a further 2 full day workshop seminar which deals with leading a more balanced, purposeful life, and understanding the importance of effective goal setting and building of effective co-responsibilities.
