Lerena Prevails at Double Down While Lennox Lewis is in the House
Kevin “Two Guns” Lerena, pictured in the white trunks, defeated the German-based Albanian, Senad Gashi to win the WBC Interim Bridgerweight world title in the headline bout of the “Double Down@The Palace” Box and Dine Tournament at Emperors Palace on Saturday evening, November 25.
In a scrappy contest Lerena showed discipline and determination to record a unanimous points decision victory against the experienced Gashi adding yet another title to the Fourways boxers long list of accomplishments. With Saturday night’s win Lerena became only the third South African, along with greats, Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela and Thulani “Sugar Boy” Malinga to win WBC titles. The local southpaw is now also a two-weight division world champion. In attendance was one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in history, Lennox Lewis. The guest of honour is the last undisputed Heavyweight World Champion, and was honoured at a special cocktail function held at the Palace of Dreams' D'oreale Grande Hotel.
