In celebration of Mandela Day, our Emperors Palace staff and executive members reaffirmed our commitment to creating meaningful and lasting change by investing in one of society’s most important foundations, Early Childhood Development.

This year, we visited Cute Kiddies Day Centre in Rondebult, an ECD centre providing quality care and education to approximately 100 children between the ages of two and five years. Recognising that the early years of a child’s life lay the foundation for lifelong learning, development and future success, the initiative focused on creating an environment where our future young learners can thrive.

A key highlight of the project was the donation of a fully curated children’s library, curated by Afrika Tikkun. The library includes a carefully selected collection of age-appropriate books, educational charts, comfortable bean bags and a bookshelf, creating a dedicated reading space designed to foster curiosity, imagination and a lifelong love for reading.

Addressing attendees prior to the handover, Peermont Group Executive Mrs Fihliwe Molefi spoke about the significance of investing in children during their formative years. She highlighted that the first five years of a child’s life play a critical role in shaping cognitive, emotional and social development, making access to quality learning resources and stimulating environments essential for future success.

Beyond literacy, the initiative focused on improving the centre’s overall learning environment through a range of infrastructure upgrades and essential donations. These included replacing damaged doors, installing new school signage, repainting outdoor paving, fitting blinds, installing awnings at the entrances, repairing the children’s bathroom facilities and donating mattresses to improve the children’s daily comfort.

To further support the centre’s day-to-day operations, Emperors Palace donated essential kitchen equipment, including a kettle, two large cooking pots, a microwave, cutlery and bowls, along with cleaning supplies to help maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

The learning and play experience were also enhanced through the donation of educational toys, a carpet, and child-friendly tables and chairs, creating welcoming spaces where children can learn, play and grow together.

While Mandela Day encourages individuals and organisations to dedicate 67 minutes to serving others, Emperors Palace believes that meaningful impact extends far beyond a single day. By investing in early childhood development, we hope to contribute to brighter futures, stronger communities and greater educational opportunities for South Africa’s youngest learners.

This initiative reflects Peermont’s ongoing commitment to making a sustainable difference in the communities it serves. Through long-term partnerships with Early Childhood Development centres, we aim to continue creating safe, nurturing and inspiring learning environments that empower children to reach their full potential.
